Looking for a sleek, luggage grade go-anywhere den? Look no further than Sleepypod. Topless, it provides Fido or Felix with a comfy curl-up-and-rest corner of his or her very own. Add the uber-adjustable zip-on topper, and presto — you’ve got a ventilated, secure car seat, carrier or chill-out zone that changes with the environment, as well as your pet’s individual needs. VIPPP indeed ;)
We’ve hit the mid-way point between 4th of July & Labor Day weekend & unless you’ve got an extended vacay planned for August, you’re probably like us…itching to get outta town for a few days!
Half Moon Bay is a vibrant coastal town located ~40 minutes south of San Francisco, the perfect place for a weekend away with your pup. A temperate climate, wide-range of outdoor activities, and proximity to Northern California’s picturesque coast give way to adventures aplenty. After a long day of exploring, dogs & their owners can retire to one of Half Moon Bay’s many pup-friendly inns + hotels featuring doggie beds, treats, goodie bags and more. A few snob-worthy spots to stay + eat:
The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay…Haute hounds & their owners will feel right at home at this luxurious, seaside resort & spa situated on dramatic bluffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Reminiscent of the seaside lodges of the early 19th century, the hotel features 261 luxurious guestrooms, a bluffside Jacuzzi and fireplace, world-class dining, two championship golf courses, tennis courts, coastal walking trails and accommodations for dogs 30 pounds and under. Guests can relax with their pets in the guesthouse, gazebo, front drive and stunning outdoor area surrounding the hotel. The hotel provides guests with a designated pet walk map for their convenience.
Seal Cove Inn…This serene hideaway set amongst a meadow of wildflowers & bordered by cypress trees is the perfect place for guests traveling with their pooches. The property boasts stylish rooms with luxurious fine linens, fireplaces, sitting areas with desks, private patios or decks and some with whirlpool baths. A gourmet breakfast buffet and wine and appetizers are complimentary for all guests.
Half Moon Bay Brewing Company…Boasting the first dog-friendly patio on the Half Moon Bay coastline, this renowned oceanfront brewery serves up delicious coastal cuisine designed to complement a wide selection of beers handcrafted on site. Guests can request complimentary dog kibble for their pets while they dine on the patio.
Pasta Moon…At this farm-fresh California-Italian mainstay, pooches will be pampered with a homemade dog treat and bowl of water (provided upon request). Pets are welcomed in both the garden and restaurant.
First official day of summer & SF is sporting temperatures to welcome it with open arms (and bikinis on). An afternoon spent multitasking in said bikini, sprawled out working on my laptop at Huntington Square is enough to make me one very happy girl. An overheated/dehydrated dog is the last thing I need spoiling my Vitamin D sesh, so I made sure to bring the new all-in-one water bottle/bowl I picked up last week at Plaza de Paws in Burlingame. Gulpy is perfect to take on walks, hikes, to the park, wherever! I didn’t worry the least bit about tossing it in my tote bag next to my brand new macbook pro, and it’s so simple to use: tray flips out, squeeze the bottle, and your pup can drink out of it like a trough. I have the smaller 10 oz size, but they come in 20 oz, great for longer hikes/bigger dogs too. Available at many pet boutiques as well as REI or online at Amazon.
Tallulah always steps off the curb to go to the bathroom in the gutter, which is awesome at avoiding awkward situations with downhill pee run-off I remember so fondly when she was a puppy, BUT she somehow manages to get exhaust on her white fur at least once a week from inadvertently rubbing against parked cars’ exhaust pipes. Earthbath Waterless Green Tea Leaf Grooming Foam has been a savior for these in-between grooming + bath situations. It rubs on, towels off, smells fantastic, and has no parabens, phosphates, DEA, synthetic dyes or perfumes. They also have companion Green Tea grooming wipes that I use for a quick paw wipe-down after a long walk, before I’ll let her anywhere near my bed or couch.
Traditional bath time is definitely an undertaking & taking her to the groomer on a regular basis can get really expensive, so this is the perfect alternative. Clean dog = happy dog & happier owner.
We were introduced to FouFou Dog, a Canadian canine apparel company, through twitter & had fun browsing through all the collections on their website. Because Tallulah isn’t really a dress-up kinda gal (although we go all-out for Halloween), I immediately gravitated toward their line of adorable luggage tags. FouFou has 33 dog breeds available (plus a few cats + a pony!) & really seems to capture the spirit of each one in a tag you can use on luggage, or as suggested on their site & how we’ll use ours, on a gym bag. What better way to strike up a conversation with a fellow dog-loving stranger?
We only have one problem- which one does Tallulah look more like?! She’s a purebred Frenchie, but I’m completely split between the docile looking French Bulldog & the quirky Boston Terrier who looks as if it’s got something up its sleeve ;)
With Miss Tallulah’s proclivity for mischief, this Skinny Mayday Kit is an absolute necessity for my peace of mind. Weighing just 7 ounces & measuring 5ish x 5ish inches, it’s packed full of all the essentials in case of an emergency on outdoor adventures with your pup (though hopefully you will never need to utilize). Extra snob points for the rugged-chic olive material & the bone shaped karabiner.
