Portrait of a Doggy

April 20, 2012 | Posted in accessorize, misc snobbery

If “sit” and “stay” aren’t part of your dog’s vocabulary, then odds are that an oil portrait painted in the style of old masters probably just isn’t in the cards. Heck, that might even rule out a great photo. Luckily, that leaves the jaunty pen and ink portraits of Studio Legohead. All it takes is $140 (plus s&h) a few snapshots of your pup and a bit of insight into his/her character – et voila! A vibrant, charming keepsake to tack over the mantle in lieu of a pompous rendering in oil.

Bonus: If you’d like your dog’s likeness to be sporting a top hat, jewelry, cowboy boots, or any other  fashionable accoutrements – no problemo. Try getting your dog to cooperate with that in real life!

Apparently today is National Puppy Day. A whole day devoted to the cuteness & unconditional love that puppies bring us! It’s also a day to help save orphaned puppies & to educate the public about the horrors of puppy mills, so for that reason alone..everyday should be National Puppy Day. Enjoy all the adorable pictures & videos floating around on the interwebs!

Fork You

March 19, 2012 | Posted in eat

Ever been sitting in a Noe Valley restaurant, watching some yoga-pants-wearing uber mom gently scooping food into her infant’s mouth and think to yourself, “Geez, I really wish I could feed my dog with a utensil.” Us neither, but here it is: the world’s first fork designed especially for pets! My Best Friend’s Fork features shortened, narrowed tines for safety, along with an easy-grip handle to keep your  voracious beast sweet baby from wrestling it out of your grasp. Drool bib and burp cloth not included.

Da-da-na-na…Destructibles!

March 5, 2012 | Posted in play

Most dogs will tell you (to the dismay of their owners) that dismantling a toy, removing the stuffing  then choking on the squeaker hidden within is pretty much the best thing ever. The party quickly comes to an end however, when the owner grumpily vacuums up all the white fluff and tosses whats left of the toy in the trash. But what if toys were created for the sole purpose of being ripped apart? What if, after they were gutted, another toy was discovered within – along with a delicious dog treat?! Like a Russian nesting doll of doggie bliss, Biters is the destructible toy for dogs, created by Meriav Barzilay, to “indulge their obsession for taking things apart and discovering what’s inside them.” Each doll is stuffed using large fabric pieces to prevent choking and contains a treat, and a squeaky toy. Win, win!

Furrr Sure!

February 16, 2012 | Posted in accessorize

If your pup has a DJ gig coming up, or just enjoys graphic new-wave style prints, you might want to have a look at the gear over at Fifi Runn. Our favorite is the “Electric 80′s” – a  heavy-duty, machine washable riff on the decade of neon and Valley Girls. Perhaps in homage to the trickle-down economics of that era, each month 10% of merch sales are donated to a worthy pet-centric cause.

Wake me up, before you go-go . . . for a walk!

Where, Oh Where, Has My Little Dog Gone?

February 14, 2012 | Posted in accessorize, misc snobbery

Save yourself (and your best friend) the anguish of being unintentionally separated with the nifty Blanket pet I.D. service. Simply purchase one of Blanket’s uber-cute tags & when it arrives, use their website to register your pet and upload a few adorable mug shots. If your little buddy ever wanders off, just  run – sobbing – to Blanket’s website & report your pet M.I.A. Blanket will instantly broadcast emails on your behalf to your local SPCA, animal hospitals, shelters, and other blanketID members in your area. Said email will link to your online information enabling 24/7 access to a full description + photos to help identify your lost pet. If a kindly stranger stumbles upon your wayward buddy, he or she can use the unique number on the tag to access all they need to reach you. Best of all – For every blanketID tag registered and every membership purchased, a portion of proceeds go towards the Blanket Fund for Animals to improve the lives of pets not as lucky as yours.

February is Responsible Pet Ownership Month and safety is always in style!

Drop in for an informative Q&A sesh with Dr. Jeannine Berger, the SF SPCA‘s resident behaviorist from 3-4 p.m., and then stay on for the kids activities, a puppy kissing booth, and chocolate treats (for the humans only!) until 7 p.m. If you’ve yet to meet your four-legged match, Jackson Galaxy of Animal Planet will be on hand to help potential adopters find the dog of their dreams. High Five For Pretty Paws

December 20, 2011 | Posted in health +beauty

Cold winter walks in the city leave little frenchie paws in need of TLC. Thankfully, we swooped up FuzzYard NaturalsShea Butter + Avocado Oil Paw Balm at Trixie + Peanut when we were in NYC, because it is just the trick to soothe and condition dry / cracked paws. The company is known for their premium pet products held to the highest of human standards, and this paw balm, formulated with organic extracts and no synthetic additives is no exception. It’s not greasy, but just in case, I did blot Tallulah’s paws with a tissue after massaging it into them to avoid any transfer. Best of all…the balm is safe for your pup to lick, because you know they will!
